Aruban born Roberto Antonio Altagracio Stuart has amazed many since his migration to the United States in 1962. Stuart learned to play the clarinet at a public elementary school in St. Albans, NY. His gift to play music was recognized by his Junior High School teacher which afforded him the opportunity to experiment with different instruments. By the time Roberto started majoring in music in high school he had learned to play sweet sounds on the saxophone, piano, guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals. Stuart was well known in the Greater New York City area for his talented creations of the Pamoja Brothers, The Natural Souls, Doc Ice, Midtown TNT, and other local bands. Stuart enlisted into the United States Army in 1973 and was sent to Germany where he performed with the R&B group "The Personified Force" from Mannheim, Germany. Two years later, Stuart was accepted into the 319th Army Band where he served as an instrumentalist. From 1998 - 2004 he served as the band’s First Sergeant and Assistant Conductor. On June 18, 2014, Roberto retired from the U.S. Army Band where his last assignment was the Senior Enlisted Sergeant for the Statue of Liberty Army Band (Reserve). Stuart studied under Professor Damien Sneed, from the TV show "Sunday's Best" . He graduated from Queensborough Community College with an Associate in Science in Music Performance.
Stuart has worked with some of the finest rhythm and blues stars; Percy Sledge, Don Covay, Carol Williams, and RoyC. He has also performed on the same tickets with Clarence Carter, Curtis Mayfield, Denise LaSalle, Jerry Butler, The Manhattans, Edwin Starr, Bobby Bluebland, Bo Diddley, Jr. and Natalie Cole. Stuart’s name appears on the recording labels of Mercury Records, where he had the opportunity to record with Jon Faddis, 3 Gems Records, Alaga Records, PMP Records, Penthouse Records and Tuff Records. Roberto has performed with the Queens College Band and the Queens College Wind Ensemble. He has distinguished himself and has performed in illustrious settings such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. His musical attributes have taken him into New York City's finest concert halls as well as those around the United States and overseas. He has also performed on the Royal Caribbean & Carnival Cruise ships. Stuart has performed in Aruba, the Panama Conservatory of Music, Panama City, Panama, where he also performed for the President of Panama, Mexico, Canada and Germany, Holland and Jamaica West Indies. One of many prestigious achievements was a performance before First Lady Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton, President Bush and a host of Governors, Senators and Congressmen. Stuart is the former Conductor of the NYC United States Post Office Band. Roberto was the manager, lead vocalist and saxophonist of the R&B group: The RAAS Band. Roberto recently has shared the stages with Ron Kenoly, Michael English and Blind Boys of Alabama. Stuart appears on The Greater Allen AME Cathedral (Jamaica, NY) 2007 Candlelight Service Video. In April 2008, he conducted the Ringling Brother's Barnum & Bailey Circus Band at the Meadowlands, NJ. Roberto performed for Late Pope Benedict XVI and Vice President Dick Cheney at Kennedy Airport for the Pope's departure ceremony. On Nov 11, 2008 he performed for President George W. Bush & Senator Hillary Clinton. Stuart performed with Bobby Sanabria's Big Band in Nov. 2013.
Since 2022, Roberto has found salvation. Stuart can often be heard sharing his gifts, talents and abilities in churches in the Caribbean and the United States. He gives all honor and glory to God for the gifts imparted unto him through the Holy Ghost, which enables him to play and produce sweet heavenly sounds. As he plays, he hopes to minister to the broken hearted; to open the eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
Roberto Stuart is a man who continues to be celebrated for his musical versatility and skill.
